President McNesby and his family wish you and your family a Happy Easter!

President McNesby and his family, would like to wish FOP members and their families a Happy Easter season.

The events of Good Friday and Easter are at the core of Christian beliefs; their celebration means the promise of salvation.

Police Officer Jesse Harnett Shooting

The entire membership of Lodge 5 Fraternal Order of Police was deeply saddened by the shooting of on duty Police Officer Jesse Harnett on January 7, 2016. He is at the hospital receiving intensive care and our thoughts and prayers are with him. Officer Harnett will be forced to endure additional operations and long term medical care due to his injuries: be assured that the FOP will be with him each step of the way during this process.

The membership of Lodge 5 is also troubled by information that is coming out of the investigation regarding the circumstances of the shooting. We will also monitor the court proceedings for the male who tried to kill Officer Harnett to ensure that Jesse receives the justice he is entitled too.

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

President John McNesby, representing the 14,000 members of Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5, wishes to announce that at the Tuesday, October 27, 2015 Board of Directors meeting the Board of Directors of Lodge 5 voted unanimously to Boycott the works of film director Quentin Tarantino. Tarantino has shown through his actions that he is anti-police.
Mr. Tarantino has made a good living through his films, projecting into society at large violence and respect for criminals; he it turns out also hates cops. Tarantino made his statements in NYC before P/O Randolph Holder, NYPD, who was killed in the line of duty, was laid to rest.
Lodge 5 would like to note that the NYC Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, President Pat Lynch has also called for a boycott of Quentin Tarantino films. (NYCPBA Press Release 10-25-2015)

PBA president Patrick J. Lynch said:
“It’s no surprise that someone who makes a living glorifying crime and violence is a cop-hater, too. The police officers that Quentin Tarantino calls “murderers” aren’t living in one of his depraved big screen fantasies — they’re risking and sometimes sacrificing their lives to protect communities from real crime and mayhem. New Yorkers need to send a message to this purveyor of degeneracy that he has no business coming to our city to peddle his slanderous “Cop Fiction.” It’s time for a boycott of Quentin Tarantino’s films.”

Happy labor Day!!

Labor Day is a special day not only because it has become the unofficial end of summer but because Labor Day is an acknowledgement, in this seemingly anti-labor society, that Labor built and runs America.

Membership in Labor unions has diminished and even with all that the Labor movement itself is strong.

We will not tolerate being blamed for all the problems in the United States. We will not tolerate being blamed for pension crises. We will not tolerate being blamed for problems in the economy.
Labor union members are not the cause of any of America’s problems; politicians and bureaucrats should look at themselves to seek causal factors. Labor members pay into their pensions and have lived up to their end of the bargain, funding Pension plans is not our problem. People that used it as a playground or did not fund their obligations should look to themselves. Labor members work hard every day to get a fair wage. They then spend the money they earned buying goods and services.

Why the bad rap on Labor; we are just middle class people, an under represented easy target.

Message from President John McNesby Concerning Accreditation by the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police

Dear Members;

The Accreditation from the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police is forthcoming, possibly as early as the end of August, however keep in mind that it has not as yet been attained.

It is important that every member, regardless of rank, of the Philadelphia Police, realize that we, all of us have a stake in this and must re-double our efforts to get this desirable goal accomplished.

The accreditation is an honor for a police department to have awarded and denotes a degree of excellence that we work for as police officers everyday as we protect and serve the citizens of Philadelphia.

Please keep this in mind as we complete the last leg of this journey to accreditation.

I thank you for your service.

Fraternally yours,

Happy Independence Day,

Please remember on this day, as you attend or have parties, cookouts, or are at the mountains or the shore, those who have gone before; those who rebelled against the tyranny of British rule, and sacrificed their lives and their scared honor to allow the idea of America to come to pass. Their service to our young nation should never be forgotten or minimized. We must not take America for granted.

You are part of the best police department in the world. Your lives have meaning and your lives matter. I am proud to be one of you and serve as your President. I thank you for your service to the citizens of Philadelphia.

Have a great Independence Day and weekend.

Get a call late last week from Marissa from the Preston and Steve morning show on MMR, she wanted to meet up this morning (6-15-2015) regarding some ideas for the FOP Survivors’ fund. When we met up this morning she is with Todd Herremans, his wife and some staff from the Herremans’ Foundation, who presented the FOP Survivors’ fund with a check for 10K from his foundation.

What a stand-up guy, still supporting Philly Police even after leaving the Eagles. A big THANK YOU to Todd Herremans, his family, his foundation and to WMMR. We appreciate it!!

Attention Members: Tony Soto Baiting Police Officers

Capture

Please be aware of any interactions with Tony Soto. This individual is intent on baiting police officers and attempting to embarrass our members on video, which he then turns over to media outlets. This male also identifies himself as a Fire Official from Montgomery County and may flash a badge. This is untrue and Soto is a fraud. A 15th District Police Officer acted professionally and appropriately in an interaction with this fraudster. Please use caution in any interactions with this male. He may try to take a photo with officers, which he will later utilize for anti-police propaganda. Soto is a criminal and his public court records can be viewed on the Pennsylvania Courts public website at http://courts.phila.gov/casesearch/ or by clicking this link. We believe that the Philadelphia or Montgomery District Attorneys should pursue charges of Impersonating a Public Servant against Soto..

STATEMENT OF NATIONAL PRESIDENT CHUCK CANTERBURY ON OFFICER SAFETY AND VIGILANCE

Law enforcement officers have always served in harm’s way. However, in recent weeks all law enforcement officers have become targets of opportunity for assassins and hate-filled individuals actively seeking to do us harm. This is a growing threat and I urge all of our members and our brother and sisters everywhere, in every jurisdiction, to exercise extreme caution while on their beats.

I cannot overstate the danger to our men and women on the streets. Since the assassination of New York City Police Officers Rafael Ramos and Wejian Liu, there have been reports of attempts on officers’ lives in California and Florida. These will not be the last.

While on duty, make sure to employ a heightened sense of situational awareness. Be alert and be cognizant of your own safety as well as that of your partner. Use the utmost caution and take care at each and every interaction with the public. Be mindful of your environment at all times, especially when in your police vehicle. Whether you are on break, filling out reports or using your equipment to run plates or identities, it is important that you maintain your situational awareness. Your own alertness is better protection than your squad car. Be vigilant at all times.

Stay safe.

Dear Fellow Officers,
During a career in law enforcement one comes to expect the media and the mobs in the street to loudly display a lynch mob mentality where due process and innocent until provide guilty mean nothing.

But one has the right to expect more from a public official, particularly a mayor. It is very disappointing to learn that Michael Nutter has chosen to publicly pander to a lynch mob mentality instead of displaying the courage and integrity required by a public official charged with maintaining a respect for law and due process.

For Nutter to make a false and rididulous statement that Brown was “shot ten times” is outrageous. Nutter has to make a choice. He can join the lynch mob or he can be the mayor. He can’t do both.

Breaking news – PA Legislature passes bills to stop further re-victimization of our survivors and their families.

This victory in Harrisburg will amend the Crime Victims’ Act of 1998 and serves to show that crime victims’ rights will not be ignored.

House Bill 2533 and Senate Bill 508 passed in their respective houses and these bills titled “Re-victimization Relief” clearly spell out the procedure for the crime victim, their local D.A. or the PA Attorney General to file a motion in court to stop continuous re-victimization.

John McNesby and the entire membership of Lodge 5 would like to thank PA State Representative Mike Vereb, 150th District for being the sponsor of the House Bill and we would like to also thank all the Senators and Representatives for their support of the bills in their final form.

The bills will be signed by the Governor next week.

I would like to wish everyone a Happy Labor Day. The Labor Movement is alive and well in Philadelphia. The fact that most workers are off on weekends is clearly a dividend of the power of organized workers. Police officers, sworn to protect and serve, will work around the clock this weekend to keep the citizens of Philadelphia safe. I want to thank them for their service. I am proud to be their President, President of the greatest Labor Union in Philadelphia. We are great because of our membership, the job they do now and have done for the people of Philadelphia. Enjoy your weekend and keep in mind the workers who have paved the way for us now in the Labor Movement.
