Mayor Nutter has signed a Mayoral Emergency Declaration in essence allowing members of the Philadelphia Police Department in their 4th year of DROP with DROP dates between May 15th and August 15th of 2008 to extend their DROP for one year. On or about August 15th, 2008 the declaration will most likely be renewed for another specified, but as yet undetermined period.

If you wish to stay you will be asked to make the written election at Police Personnel to remain on the "property" for the additional year. However, you are not guaranteed to stay in your current assignment.

Retired members of the Police Department who left less than one year ago who did not DROP can request and apply for re-instatement back to the Police department. Re-instatement provisions as always will apply.

Retired members of the Police Department who DROP-ed on or after August 1, 2007 can request and apply for re-instatement back to the Police department. The provisions are you must have been a police officer, corporal, detective, or sergeant only to be considered for re-instatement after you DROP-ed. Re-instatement provisions apply and you will not be able to again join the DROP a second time. Your reassignment after re-instatement will be at the discretion of the Commissioner.
